The final test match between ^thc.
Australian cricketers and an All-Eng
land eleven was commenced to-day on
the Jvcnhington Oval, in delightful
weather.
: The wicket was good, and the atten
dance large.
Gregory, Howell, Gchrs and Newlaud
were omitted from the' Australian

England won the toss and decided to
bat.
Cotter and Noble opened the bowling
for the Australians.
M'Laren and Hayward opened the
Englishmen's innings.
M'Laren was easily caught by Laver
in the slips off Cotter for 6," Hayward
being not out, G. 1—6—12.
Tyldesley filled tlio vacancy, and was
bowled by Cotter for 10. He scored 11
in one over off Cotter, and was out in
the same over. Hayward was nob out,
10. 2—16—32.
The second wicket fell with the total
at 32 runs. . .
At the luncheon adjournment Hay
ward. was not out, 52, and Fry, not out,
50, two wickets being down for 125
runs. ■ '
