Reporting 011 a visit to the Mount j
Monger District, Inspector of Mines
Gcurlay reports sampling a leader
from P.A. No. 2364 in what is known
as Creedon's Paddock. Some rich
leaders have been worked in this
place for years over widths varying"
from lSin. to 4in., and have been very
good working miners' propositions,
but no mines have been established
so far. This sample gave the phe
nomenal vetun of 31 oz. 16 dwt. 11 gr.
per ton. Another sample taken from
the Sudden Jerk and from a pot hole
in which 4ft. of lode material was
showing gave 7 dwt. 1 gr. This was
taken from the head of the patch of
old alluvial workings half a mile
smith of the Sudden Jerk mine, and
the lode is of a promising appearance.
Mr. McCahon has joined the owner,
Mr. Nener, to open this up, and should
prospects warrant it the lode material
will he treated at the Huntingdon mill
on the Great Hope mine.
A sample taken from Stevenson and
Irwin's show, the workings of which
are opposite the 33-mile peg on the
trans, line, gave 11 oz. 16 dwt. 22 gr.,
and two more from the same prospect
ing area returned 2 cz. 12 dwt. 4 gr.
and 4 oz. 5 dwt. 17 gr. respectively.
Some work has been done on this line
previously, and small crushing taken
out to a depth of 20ft. averaged 12
dwt. over an average width of 12in.,
the stone giving the appearance of
having cut out. Stevenson and Irwin
(the former having received assistance
from the Prespecting Board) have
opened up the reef about 600ft. north
of the old workings on stone averag
ing about 12in. wide, from which the
samples were taken. At 2 4ft. depth
the reef appeared to have struggled
through the over burden of red coun
try which Geologist Foreman de
scribes as decomposed greenstone. At
28ft. depth it appeared more settled
with a good, well-defined hanging
wall. Tbe reef has been stripped by
a dig on the footwall, and the pros
pects are well over the ounce. A trial
parcel will be put through the Codl
gardie State battery at the end of the
month. Ground has been pegged out
for some distance north and south,
but as usual no work is being done
except by the prospectors. The in
spector is of the opinion that this
centre has a good chance, but it re
quires sinking to a depth of 50ft. and
then crosscutting.
Murchison Gold field.
Mount Magnet district was quiet
during the month of April, the month
ly clean-up from the Hill 60 mine
realising 116.45 oz. from 250 tons of
ore crushed and 300 tons of sands.
Yalgoo <4 old field.
The run of the State Battery at
Warriedar was completed during the
month, a total of 647.5 tons being
crushed for 215 ozs. and 1755 tons of
sand treated for 434.7 fine ozs. The
State hattery at Payne's Find com
menced during the latter end of the
month, 96 tons being crushed for a
yield of 55.35 fine oz.
State Batteries.
The total output from State Bat
teries from the date of inception to
March 31 last amounts to 1,497,559.94
tons of ore milled for a production by
amalgamation of £5,101.0S3.50, sand
treatment £825,03.112, slime treatment
£265,266.11, and residue treatment
£9,353.37 Tin dressing plants dealt
with 81,616 tons of tin ore which re
turned by black tin £93.423.09, and
residue treatment £572.32, making a
total production from all sources of
£6,294,732.01.
