BEAUTY SPOILT.
To tlie Editor.
,/Sir,—Visitors when they visit a Town as a
rule, aro nob content with seeing the main
streets, but**Hke/to either \^alk!or*rid© and
see? the; outskirts; but' unfortunately, * cither
for the >vant of water or. the want of a few
who' like to seo the 'town on the progressive
system, visitors ;', are debarred" frony seeing
much' of/the outskirts'and very , little of the
town through" dust. One would think in a
place like Geelong there would be some who
would endeavor* to have the streets watered
at sucli intervals that would enable people
to see a little of tho. town, and with the
number of lads who seen* tq have nothing to
do, give them a job to keep the main streets
clean by sweeping, tliem and putting the
manure in bins fixed at different places in
stead of letting it blow and accumulate
along tho different drains and at times almost,
blind people. It requires but very little to i
spoil the beauty of a town, and very little
expense to show that people are on
tho road to progress, which 1 can' be
mado by good judgment and a little tact.
There aro thoso in Geclong who would like
to rco Geelong in an up-to-date way and
glory in seeing progress mado and would do
all in their power towards carrying out any
scheme, that would. benefit not only visitors
but townsmen. Watering and sweeping
streets should be carried out and I trust that
before long it can bo said Geelong indeed
has those who indeed glory in demonstrating
they aro not backward in showing tho pro
gresa tliat can ho mado by pfirsoverance -
am, etc.,
