5-8 WIN TO
DOWERIN
A game, which created great
interest, was played between
•the Dowerin Club and Wooda
nilling as the main attraction.
The visitors were an unkown
quantity and quite a deal of
speculation took place as to
whether the young light Wood
anilling side would be able to
■hold their opponents. With the
breeze in their favour the Dow
erin side began very smartly to
pound the goals but, as was the
case in the first match, their
kicking was quite astray, al
though they had the misfortune
to hit the goal post twice with
consecutive shots. In this term
Woodie failed to score, while
the visitors scored 1-7. Woodie
began quickly at the commence
ment of the second quarter and
soon registered a full-pointer.
However the visitors were be
ginning to find thir feet and
were doing very well against
the. wind. The locals, too, were
playing very nicely and by scor
ing 4-4 for the quarter were in
front at half-time when the
scores were Woodie 4-4, Dow
erin 2-9.
The visitors began to show
their their true form after the
long interval and with open foot
ball, smart passing and good
kicking, soon ran to a useful
lead. In this quarter the locals
failed to score whilst Dowerin
side notched 6-4. The third
quarter scores were Dowerin
8-13, Woodie 4-4.
The breeze died down consid
erably in the last quarter but
was Still some advantage and al
though the Woodanilling players
were doing very well, they were
no match for their opponents
who were still playing good
football and were finishing very
strongly. Filial scores were
Dowerin 12-14, Woodie 7-6.
In a well-balanced Bide, the
best players for Dowerin were
Ben Woods (who gained the
fairest and best for Dowerin),
Pat O'Shaughnessy, L. Windsor
(who was responsible for some
very nice goals at full forward)
and F. Ward. For Woodie Ron
Coles (trophy winner for fair
est and best for Woodie), Eric
and Ron Ward, I. Crosby, and
I. Kowald.
