BEFORE THE COURT
Fined for Selling
Adulterated Meat
Robert Charles Dewley, £ib
eral Member for Drummoyne
in the N.S.W. Legislative As- 1
sembly, was yesterday fined £2, i
with 8/r costs, at Balmain Court
on a charge of having sold
adulterated meat.
A few days after he Won the
Drummoyne seat by a narrow
margin of votes, Dewley was
fined £100 and ordered to pay a '
penalty of £400 on a charge of !
having defrauded the Income Tax
Department. j
Because of that offence, ' the
Government asked the Crown
Solicitor whether action could be
taken to expel Dewley from Par
liament. -
If the Government considers the
grounds sufficient for Dewley's ex
pulsion, it will probably refer the
matter to the Court of Disputed
Returns. ' ? ? ?
J. Shiel, inspector of the Board
of Health, told Mr. Beavers, S.M.,
that tjie Government analyst's
certificate showed that the meat
contained sulphuric acid.
Before imposing the penalty, the
Magistrate remarked that Dewley
had^four previous convictions.
