TURF SENSATION.
Life Disqualifications.
TjpoUR men and a horse were disquali
fied for life as a result of investiga
tions by New South Wales Southern Dis- .
tricts Stipendiary Steward (P. J. Bartley)
into the bona fides of Duke Bombita, who'
scored a runaway victory at Holbrbok on
14 ? s xi. - ?
uuiuuci lusi/i xvii. xmiwey isoueu wit;
following report: 'Having taken evidence
in the above case, having examined the
parties concerned, and having made a
very thorough inspection of the. horse
alleged to be Duke Bombita at Hol
brook, and also the racehorse Erbie at
Forbes, I am certain these horses are
one and the same; I therefore disqualify
Rupert Coughlan (nominator of the bay
gelding Duke Bombita), Thomas McMahon
(of ? Rae-street, Forbes,- co-lessee), the
brown gelding Erbie, Stanley, 'Wilfred
Biggins (of ' Parramatta), ' and John
Herbert Nathan (of Wagga) for life under
Rule 171. - - '
'With regard to George . Finley Suther*
land and Charles Morrow, I have decided
to take no action.'
- All the parties were well known in
racing circles, and the performances of
Erbie have been chronicled -in 'The
Worker'.' from time to time. , .
ACTION DEFERRED?
It is unlikely, that the V.R.C; will take
any more action in the Chrybean case
until the appeal of the four men has been
disposed of by the S.D.R.A. and possibly
the A.J.C. It is known, however, that
Mr. A. V. Kewney, Secretary of ; the
V.R.C., continued his inquiries after Mr.
Bartley had concluded his report. ' The
disclosures, however, call for immediate
action by the A.J.C. and V.R.C., and the
ease with which the horse is alleged to
have been. 'rung in' is not a flattering,
commentary on the present system.
