WEST AUSTRALIAN NOTES.
By PROPHECY.
j A highly successful round of gold-fields
Imeetings was brought to a close at Cool
gardie, the local club racing on two days,
■during which the sum of £9,211 passed
■through the totalisator, us compared with
I £8,991/10/" last year, and £7,314 in 1909.'
The gate takings (which include book
makers' fees) totalled—1911, £1,333; 1910,1
! £1,405; 1909. £1,203. On the opening day
, the Carlyon horse Hurry Up, who was well;
, backed, won the Carbine Hurdles;, and the ;
ex-Victorian gelding Preopal scored his'
' second win at the round in the Burbanks
I Plate. After his weight-for-age display at I
Kalgoorlie the True Blue geldmg Renegade
| was sent out "favourite-for the Coolgardie j
Handicap, of seven furlongs, and the issue ■.
' was never in doubt. He beat a very fair1
field of middle-distance horses in a canter. I
High Society, who is also by. True'Blue,
and who is a. stable mate, of Renegade,:
accounted for. the Burbanks Purse. Like <
Renegade, she- was ridden'by Butters, who
is likely to remain .in this State for a time. I
Cusdin scored a nice win 'on' Louis d'Or in
the Londonderry Welter, and Romulus,
who at one time looked hopelessly beaten,
1 added the Kingston Stakes to his credit. I
I On the concluding day Hurry Up captured
his second race, this time the Jaurdi.
Hurdles, and Preopal scored his third win-'
ning bracket by taking the Montana Plate j
in good style. There were 10 runners in
the Coolgardie Cup, a mile and three fur-1
longs' race, worth 300 -sovs., ■ and Rene- ]
gade, with Butters up, went out an even-1
money favourite. He was kept in a handy
position until turning into the straight, and
then given his head. He came away, and
won nicely from West Park (9st. 41b.) and
Fortafix (8st.). Renegade carried 8st. 121b.,
which included a 7lb. penalty. It is very
unfortunate for hi6 owner that he was not
himself in the Hannan's Handicap, as had
he run up to form there he would have had
an undoubted chance in the Kalgoorlie Cup.
I Little Sam, who was not generally fancied, j
' won the Montana Purse, after an exciting
finish; and Tabu, starting at odds on, an-1
|nexed the High-Weight Handicap. Highj
Society, with an apprentice on her back, j
won the Bonnie Vale Handicap. Her re-1
cord at the round reads—2 firsts, 4 seconds,
1 third,-and once unplaced.
During the eight days' racing at the gold
fields round the sura of £91,097 passed
, through the totalisator, compared with
I.£99,502/10/ last year, and £102,645 in 1909.
, The gate takings for the three years are:—
1911, £8,943; 1910, £9,061; 1909, £8,276.
! The three clubs gave away £8,741 in stake
j money, the leading winners being:—D. L.
iDoolette, £700; P. Bolger, £690; Nicholas
1 and Bolger. £690 (P. Bolger's stable thus
'accounted for £1,380); A. Stewart, £630;
,C. M'Manus, £520; J. O. Peterson. £451;
I Watson and Girtmann, £416; Emanuel
'Bros., £405. P. A. Connolly,, who had a
! big string of horses up, was unlucky, and.
•his cheque only amounted to £90. F.
W. Allen and his son Pentland Allen won
j very little, but, as the latter and a couple
'of others found a gold mine about ten mile3
from Kalgoorlie, his trip may be profitable
after all. He intends to remain on the gold
fields for a while, to see how the mine,
which is showing good gold, turns out. The
visiting Victorian jockeys had a good time,
as Cain rode seven winners, four seconds
and one third. Butters rode four firsts, six
seconds, and five thirds, and Cusdin four
firsts, three seconds, and one third. The
Perth jockey. Matthews, equalled Cusdin's
record, while G. Ross, who only
rode at Boulder and Kalgoorlie,
piloted four firsts, two seconds,
and two thirds. Pinkus rode four
winners, and Audas, Ctacknell, _ and Sib
brett three each. P. Bolger trained seven
winners, J. J. O'Hara six, and P. J. Ward
and R. Burns five each. True Blue sired
six winners, Grafton, Soult, and Pretorious
three each, and Onslow, Osculator, Corsican,
Bundook, Penance, Bobadil, Mural, Love
Wisely, and Carlyon, two each.
The name of Ixolite was Tecently granted
for a colt by Golden Spur from Ivy. Golden
Spur, who is in the West Australian Derby,
was mated with Ivy at Yathroo when he
was 18 months old, so that the career of
Ixolite will be watched with _ interest.
Golden Spur, who is a son of Carbineer, has
6iilee been added to the list.
'Mr. M. H. Walsh informs me that the
Kalgoorlie club made a profit of at- least
£5,700 on their annual meeting. This is a
satisfactory result.
