COMPETITIONS I
PROSE COMPETITION.-A first prize of
10/ and a second prize of 5/ will be
awarded to the boy or girl (In each class)
who sends in the best essay or short story.
Entries must not exceed 1.000 words.
VERSE COMPETITION.-A first pHze of
10/ end a second prize of 5/ will be awarded
in both classes for the best poem on any
subject. Entries must not exceed 24 lines.
DRAWING COMPETITION.-A first prize
of 10/. with a second prize of 5/, will be
awarded in each month. Subject for
April "Hard at Work" or "Helping."
Certificates will be awarded as consola
tion prizes in competitions. .Six of these
certificates, when earned, may be sent to
"Patience." who will award the sender
a* book prize.
GENERAL CONDITIONS.-A parent, guar
dian, or teacher is required to write the
following guarantee upon all competing
work:-"I certify that the accompanying
entry Is the original and unaided work oil
the competitor, and that It has not been
Breviously published. Signed ." All
tie work must be written on one side of
the paper only. Copies depictures will not
be accepted, and drawing must be done
with pen and Ink.
Competitors win be divided Into two
classes-those over 14 and under 16 years
of age must mark their papers "Class I.";
those under 14 years must mark their
papers "Class H."
The same competitor cannot take another
prize for one month following the month
of prize winning, but certificates will be
awarded, when merited, during this
period.
Any entry not taking prizes may be
published in the "Y.F.P.,r at the discretion
of "Patience."
Name, age, and address should be clearly
written on all entries before sending them
to "Patience," the "Young Polk's Page,"
"The Australasian" Office, Melbourne.
Competitions close the last Tuesday of
each month.
