"Faster
Than U.S. Jets"

The trade magazine "Aviation
'Week" says that Russia has a new
fighter plane, powered by a Rolls
Royce Nene Engine, that is faster
tharn jet planes in operation with tlle
United States Air Force.

fighter has a speed of 630 to 660
miles an hour. Fastest United States
Air Force jet planes in operational
service are the F80 Shooling Star
-and the F84 Thunderjcel, both of
ficially rated in the 600 m.p.h.
class.
Ithe F86, which holds the world's
spetled recordt of 670,981 m.p.h., ap
pears to b, much faster than the
new jet, but has not yet been as
sinedl to regular service.
The mlagazilne says thle lnew Rus
sian fighter has beenl operating with
the Red Air Force for at least six
months, and may thus be compared
with the F84 from a time vi'ewpoint.
