AUSTRALIANS IN RUSSIA.
It is claimed that the Austrailan vol-
unteers in Russia earned proportionately
more than twice as many decorations as
any other force. Besides Corporal Sulli-
van, Sergeant Pearce, a Military Medallist,
from France, earned a recommendation
for the Victoria Cross for rushing a block
house, killing the enemy, and capturing a
post single handed. He was killed just
as he reached his goal.
Pearco, with Corporal Gibbs, was for-
merly an officer in the 55th Battery of
Australinn Artillery. He spent three
days behind the enemy lines in gathering
information which resulted in a successful
attack, and the rout of the Bolsheviks.
Gibbs later won the Distinguished Conduct
Medal.
Lance-corporal Lutherborough, of Syd
ney, also won the D.C.M. for bravery in
an attack at Lakonena. The D.C.M. was
awarded to Private Norman Brooks, a
Gippslander. He carried out very diffi-
cult patrol scouting near Seltso. A num-
ber of, other D.C.M.s, Military Medals,
and Russian decorations will be awarded.
