Dotermined. Suicide.
A RECENT ARRIVAL HANGS
HIMSELF.
THOMAS REIDY, about 50 years of age, cornm
mitted suicide by hanging himself'on. Satur
day morning, at O'Neill's Assembly Hotel,
Phillip-strcet, Syducy. - The deceased, who
was a recent arrival in the colony, was
a native of county Mouaghan, Ireland, and
had resided in the hotel for some time. At
about 10 o clock a barmaid had occasion to
go to the yard adjoining the hotel, Where
sbhe foundthe deceased hanging by the n~ k
by a cord! attached to a beam. Sie imme
diately g'ive the alarm, and the landlord of
the hotel who happened to bepresent at the
time, rushed into the yard and lifted up tihe
bodyof the deceased so as to loosen the knot
round his neck. Reidy was living when Mr.
O'Neill -ucceeded in loosing the knot of
cord, but he expired almost immediately
after he was cut down. The body was at'
once removed to the Sydney Hospital, where
Dr. IDixoni on examination, pronounced'life..
to be extinct.. The matter was reported
to the city coroner,-and an inquest will be
held to-day.
