ADAMSTOWN
ODDFELLOWS' ROLL OF HONOUR,
A roll of honour to the members of the
Pride of Adamstown Lodge, M.U., I.O.O.F.,
who have enlisted, was unveiled on Friday
evening In Kltchener Hall, In the pres
ence of a large gathering, by tile Grand
Mlaster of the Order in New South Wales,
Bro. J. Taylor. The roll is hung on the
wall of the hall, and will remain there,
by permission of the proprietor, Mr. T.
Freeman. who Is secretary of the lodge,
which Is the largest In the Newcastle dls
trict, consisting of 364 financial members,
30 of whom have enlisted. The roll is ar
tistIcally itnished, and bears the names of
the folloslnsi members, who are either at
the front or in tralnlng:--J. Weatherburn,

C. G. Smith. R. G. Ambler, T. Mowbray,

The oicers present were Bro. J. P. Tay
lor, grand master; Bro. J. A.
Perkins and Bros. P.. Cottam, direc
tors; Bro. A. Turbull, G.Mo., Newcastle
district; Bro. C. F. M'Sason, district D..GM.;
Bro. WV. A. Woolston, district secretary.
Several invited brethren were present, in
cluding Bro. R. T. Sarglnson, P.G.Mi., and
officers of different lodges In the district.
T're proceedings were opened by the
Mayor, Alderman Robin, introducing tthe
Grand Lodge oflicers, and district officers
and visitors. He said he was pleased to
be associated with the gathering that
eveniag. It swas gratifying to them to knoW
that so nmany members of the lodge had
enlisted, but they regretted exceedingly
that Bros. Banteld, Stewart, and J. Mow
bray had fallen. It was gratifying to the
friends of ttose brave men that the Pride
of Ad'nlstown Lodge, M.U., 1.O.O.F.,
would perpetuate their memory. He intro
duced Oro. T. Wood, N.G. of the lodge,
to preside over the concert.
Mr. D. Stoddart opened the programme
by singing "The King," and was well re
ceived. Mllss Edna Reid was recalled for
her rendering of the song, "Australia Will
be There;" flrs. W¢. Hull was equally
successful with her two songs. Mr. E. CuI
len, a young ventriloquist, made his first
stage appearance. His entertainment was
enjoyable, and the reception lie received
should encourage him for future efforts.
Hir. Lanardo, a miniature conjurer, did a
number of very clever tricks, and other
enjoyable items were given by" Zoppy
and Splcer, B. Bradley, Terry, and Hal
wsood, and Nichl Bros.
The District Grandmaster, Bro. A. Turn
bull, expressed his pleasure at being pre
sent that evening, and called upon ehd
Grand Mlaster, Bro. J. P. Taylor, to un
veil the honour roll of the rride of
Adamstown Lodge, Mt.U.I.O.O.F.
The Grand Mlaster said he felt proud of
the privilege of being present that even
ing to participate in doing honour to the
brethren of the Adamctown Lodge. whh,
with othler Australian soldiers, had en
listed to fight. for the maintenance of the
British Empire. 'rhey knew the iname the
Australian soldiers had made for their
coustry--a name that would never perish,
and they could not be adequately repaid
for what the" had done on the Gallipoli
Peninsula. Uppwards of 2200 members of
their order have volunteered for service,
and le regretted to say that 200 of them
fell at Gallipoli. Those men had done
their duty to their ,ieg and country, and
as :far as the Mlancihester Unity Order of
Oddfellowvs was concerned their wives and
dependents would not be left in want. The
order in this Otate was paying the lodge
Contributions of members at the front to
the amount of £5000 per annum, and they
were enabled to accomplish that without
lnflitling a special levy on members.
Three of. the brethiren of Adamstown
Lodge had fallein in action. He congratu
lated Adamstow5n t.odge on such a good
percentage of the members having en
listed, and the friends could rest assured
that those ,who had fallen and those who
had gone forward to do their duty to their
country would boeover remembered by the
Manchester Unity. With lthose words the
Grand Master, with the old of a cord from
th'e stoige, unveiled the roll of honour that
Was covered with the Union Jacit and the
Australian lnag.
The audience rising sang the National
Antdseni and "Rule Britannia," and led
by the Grand HMster,' three cheers were
given with enthusiasm for the Austra
lian soldiers and the Allies.
Brd.' A. "Turnbtill, D.G.bM., and Bro. J..
A. Perkitns, director; addressed the gath
ering, congratulating the lodge on having
so many of their members in the ranks,
and stated that the interests of members
who went forward in defence of the Em
plre woutld not be lost sight of by the eOx
cutive of the order.
Tde floor was then cleared. and dancing
commenced to niusic provided by Miss
Cridland's orchestra. The opening march,
in which about 100 couples took Part, was
led by the Grand Master. Bro. Taylor, and
Mrd. Taylor. bIessrs. J. Blakemore and
A. Cameron were bls. .
A very successful gatherleg closed with
votes of thaniks to the grand lodge and
district officers for their attendance.
A meeting of young ladies desirous of
becoming members of the Girls' Patriotic
League will be held at Mr. James Ledley's
residence, Hourlue-stroet, on Wednesday
night.
The Clifton Vane Company will give an
entertainment at I?ltchener Hall this
evening, when the programme willlngludn
dlrama, pictures, and vaudeville.
