LIFESAVER.
DROWNED
FROM SKI
BRISBANE, Sunday.--A Tugan
lifesaver, George Spencer, 24, of
Auchenflower, Brisbane, was
drowned at Tugan to-day. The
tragedy was witnessed by more than
1000 people on the beach.
In spite of an all-day search by
relays of swimmers and divers, a
surlboat and two planes, his body
had not been found up to a late
hour to-night.
At 10.30 a.m., tlduring a surf
carnival, Spencer paddled out on
a surf-ski to a buoy 150 yards
from the beach. A few minutes
later his ski was seen to capsize.
When Spencer failed to surface,
many of his club mates and other
swimmers swam out to help.
Others on surf-skis dashed out,
and within a few minutes about sO
swimmers were diving and search
ing around the spot.

organisedl relays of swimmers to
search the surf, also parties to
scour adjacert parts of the coast
Spencer was known to have suf
fered from sudden illnesses. It is
