ACQUITTED OF £1400
FRAUD CHARGE
SYDNEY. Friday.--Louis Mark
Patmoy.. 37, pawnbroker's assistant,
was acquitted and discharged at
Central Police Court of a charge of
having obtained £1400 by falsely pre
tending to Harry Guinsberg that a
diamond in a ring was 7½ carat
Guinsbe'g, a Brisbane clothing
manufacturei, said Patmoy first told
him the ring was 10 carat and part
of the Koh-I-Nbor diamond, and he
wanted £2000 for it. Patmoy later
said 'it was exactly 7½ carat, and
Gninsberg paid himn £1400 for it.
Guinsberg said next day hlie told
Patmoy hlie had the ring tested and
it was only 4.60 carat; and he de
manded back his money. Patmoy
had said, ''You knew what you were
buying."
The Magistrate said he regarded it
as an ordinary business transaction.
