0 HAVE YOU .-noticed
the. "reputed pint" of
ale lately doesn't seem to
be quite what .it used to
be?
If .so, you're quite right.
When the price increase
in bottled beer was granted
three or four weeks ago, it
was specially emphasised
that the price of draught
ale served over the bar
had not been raised.
What seems to have
been kept secret is that
the "reputed pint" measure
that used to contain 16 oz.
was reduced to 15 oz.
And that's the new con
tainer. in which most
.hotels are now serving
"pints."
OUR Ardrossan cor
" respondent wires that
Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Bache
and family left Ardrossan
to reside at Warooka.
Their Scotch collie
Lassie did not approve of
the move. Yesterday.
travel weary, footsore and
hungry, she arrived back
at Ardrossan, a distance of
nearly 70 miles.
Lassie came home.

Q LETTER in our open

from a reader who com

Recalls to "Old Salt"
some memories, of 60 years
ago when they had three
classes on the horse coaches.
If the coach became stuck
in those days, he says, the
driver's call was: "First class,
stay where you. are;. Second
class, get out and walk;
Third class, get' out and
push."
0 HONESTY, they say,
is a good policy, but
combined with forgetful
ness it can create an odd
situation. And Mr. F. K.
Prith, of the Department
of . Trade and Customs.
Port Adelaide, finds him
self in one of them.
On June 1. he left an
attache case initialled
"G.M.K." in the GPO foyer
and somebody picked it up
by mistake.
He advertised for it.
received an immediate
reply-but now the difli
culty is to find the woman
who found the case.
Is her letter, she men
tioned she'd picked it up
in honest mistake for her
son's case-but she forgot
to give her address in the
letter and her signature is
blurred. All that can be
deciphered is "Mrs.
Weth ... "
