BLIND GIRL'S ARTS
DEGREE
MELBOURNE, Sunday.
-Miss Phyllis Lawson, of Albert Park,
who lost her eyesight at eight years,
yesterday secured her Bachelor of Arts
degree, ia fitting reward for great courage
on her part. A year after becoming blind
she attended the Blind School, and, after
mastering Braille, becamne a brilliant stu
dent. She was dun of the school for
two years, and won a scholarship which
took her to a business college. There,
besides learning typewriting, she was
coached for Intermediate and Leaving
honors. She won a free place at the
University and after three years took her
degree.
