U.S. Court Asked
To Set Aside
Fines On Miners
WASHINGTON, Jan. 12. A.A.P.
-Briefs have been filed requesting
the Supreme Court to set aside fines
of £1,093,750 imposed oni the union
and £3125 on Mr. John L. Lewis for
ordering the; coal strike in 1046.
The United Mineworkers' Associa
tion and Mr. Lewis contend that the
restraint order was issued against
them in violation of the "plain, un
equivocal language" of the Federal
Anti-injunction Act.
The Govegnment filed a brief ask.
ing that the Court uphold its power
to "prevent irreparable injury to the
people of the nation."
The Court set down Ithe hearing
for Februarr 14.
