Shoplifter Gaoled;
Had Drinks, He Says
"People had asked me to get them
things for Mothers' Day and after I
had had a few drinks. I was fairly suc
cessful." said Vernie Ryan. munition
worker of Whitmore square, in the
Adelaide Police Court today.
Ryan pleaded guilty before l~r.
Muirhead, P.M., to three charges of
shoplifting, and was ordered imprison
ment for three months.
He was charged jointly with Dorothy
Magor, munition worker, of Gibson
street. Bowden, that on May 9, they
stole eight pairs of silk stockings, valued
at £2/4/, the property of Charles
Moore & Co., a dress valued at £1
19/11, belonging to Peoplestores Ltd.,
and a kit bag, two handbags. three pairs
of gloves, a box of powder, a bead
bracelet, six bottles of perfume, and a
box of playing cards, together valued
at £10/7/4, the 'property of the Myer
Emporium (S.A.), Ltd.
Magor pleaded not guilty and was
discharged, Mr. Muirhead stating that
evidence was sufficient to. create a
doubt in his mind as to her guilt.
Mr. C. J. Philcox appeared for de
fendants.
