IYEARLINS$ OF TYPE
Ricltimond ?.:-Park .-t€oflection-:
Prkise has L5een. frequently expressed
regarding the bonditionl' which year.
lings' from" .RichmoindwPark are; pre
sented in Melbourne saleyaids, and the
lot to be sent ovbr, to' Victoria In a
few days will be much admired.
is doubtful if a more even lot of year
ltings will ever have left South Australia,
*This will be the last lot of Lucknowsthat
will go from' Richmond Park, :Messrs. L.
'?" Aldridge. and D. C. - Cudmote, hawing
sold that' stallion to Sir Sidney Kidman."
A few days ago a party,, which included
Messrs. C. Wheeler and G. S. Taylor (t'rea
simfe 'th~ Vict~rian' Cfub)Ainspected the
youinggters, 'andlcamne awvay. with' the sanic
in feasignas th t expresed by 1. Scobig
and- H Ae?.". m?.anx, that" for all-round
quality 'the' S.. Antons .?nd Lucknows
would" hold' th~tr own ondooks with- the
best?'.in' A2istralia. The kapPearance of the
colts and fillies does infinite credit to Mr.
Leslie Alhridge and his assistants.
The fillies were exceptional, and prob
ably' th'e best' that St. Anton has yet sired:
Lucknow, too, has excelled himself in this
lot.
One of the illies by the Minoru horse,
which particularly took the eye, was the
pledge of the Hills Railway winner Lady
Priscilla. She is a bay with grey hairs
all over her silken coat.. a characteristic
which has marked the whole of the family.
It will be somewhat surprising if this
young lady cannot -go fast.
A handsome youngster is the filly by St.
Anton from Lady Honor, a near relative
to the Lady Priscilla filly. Short bar
relled, she looks every inch a galloper.
That is only to be expected seeing that
she is from the :same. mare as Darjeeling
and Honneur (champion of the West),
while Lord Setay is a three-quarter bro
ther. in blod.
Attractive Fillies
Gumti's 'first foal is' a filly by St :-.
'f6%--,, 1, .%- AXI- ^. (.i Olýtc- * 2CvnIimt, Whii'
has shown-neaps or pace in the gambols
in the paddocks.
Katherine Dock, the dam of Silent
Might, Hands Up, and Highcocket, is rep
resented, by a handsome chestnut filly,
which is brimful of quality. All the St.
Anton chestnuts have done well on the
turf.
Of a different type is the sister to St.
Amantos, .by. St. Anton from St. Spasa'a
sister Amantes.. This mare, which ran
-econd in a City Handicap, and second
in a Birthday .Cup, has had only one of
her progeny to race, the' remainder hav
ing -had the bad luck to meet with.mis
haps.
Her yearling to St.OAnton is of the thick,
compact variety, low to the ground like
her mother. M r. Aldridge thinks that
she. will traverse a distance, as she has
the same maternal connection as Murillo,
winner of the last Metropolitan.
:' J..V. HQpwood was interested in the sis
Ler to Glenanton, by St. Anton from Glen
arte. She is nicely turned, with a de
termined look about her, suggesting sta
mlina. 'That is not surprising, as Glenarte
is a half sister to Harvest King, other rela
tives being Kirn, Boaster, and Bairn.
Of exquisite. color is the filly .by St.
Anton from Chatelaine, a. full sister to
Tangaloma, .by Linacre from Auriety, and
it is probable that there will be many
bids for her. . The filly by St. Anton
:rom Dewey Dawn bears all the evidences
of the Wallace influence,, while a siste.
to Mount of Olives 'is on the shapely side.
being .by. Lucknow from the Melbourne
Cup heroine 'Sister Olive. She was a
Ite :-foal, and is not quite so forward as
most of the others.
W.alth of Musket
There is a wealth of Musket flowing in
the veins of the filly by .Spearhead from
Dese't Flower, and she has much to re
commend her. on looks. Spearhead, of
course, was .the sire of Spearfelt, and
Desert .Flowe¶ descends from another Mel
bourne Cup winner in. Auraria, 'so that
'there should not be any question of weak
ness of stamina. This, is the first foal
of Desert Flower.
.Another. Spearhead colt seen was one
out of Tickle Toe, which. claims similar
blood to the Desert Flower filly,, as his
dam is byr St. Anton from. Princess Aura,
a daughter of Auraria. ' This .fellow is 'a
sensible sort, anid there is strength writ
ten .all over him.
The brother of Tena Kea is smart look
ing. He .ik much bigger than his sister,
a?d might be expected to' tome early.
Pistol Belle is represented by a hand
some filly by St. Anton, being a' full
sister to Oakland Belle, The Loaning,
Miss" A?rd-ey, 'and '- Newbattle. Thi.
family could all. gallop, and. the new
comer will probably not be an excep
tion. She is compactly built, and there
is not a better doer at the establish
ment. Pistol Belle revives the old Thora
strain.
A filly by St. Anton, from Old- Glory
should 'go fast. She met with a slight
injury to her nose, but the trouble iz.
only superficiaL."
Otheir fillies were one by Lucknow from
Trioniat. a half-sister to Rose of Canny,
by Lucknow from Bridge of Roses, .which,
looks a nippy sort.,
I Typical Comedy King
It was grand to gaze on a dark 'browni
colt by Comedy King from Princess
Aura, and when he comes into the ring.
there will most likely be keen competi
tion to get him. He is a typical Comedy
King, carrying four white stockings, with
his coat flecked with grey hairs. It is
the hallmark of Pistol. There is game"
ness in every inch of him.
A colt, by Lucknow from Althien. is
a full 'brother to Bengal Lancer, which
has shown possession of smart .pace. He
is a chestnut, carrying black spots on
various, parts of the. body, ' and there.
Is something particularly attractive
about his general conformation. ..
The St. Aiton-Ansonia colt, a full
brother to Antarian, is on the massive
side, and all day long he has his head
in the manger. He is a good sort.
Dimora's pledge to Lucknow is .a chest
nut colt, and, this is a first foal. He is
nattty, and being by Buckwheat there
is no reason why Dimora should .not
beget a galloper.
Successful Breeding Combination
It has come to be acknowledged that
there is not a more successful breeding
combination in Australia than the St.
Anton-Pistol cross, and it will- probably
reflect itself :in the colt br the St. Frus
quin horse from Elnistle s sister, Reci
tation, a mare which -was in the front
rankers on the racecourse. If this fellow
does not bring a high price then there
is nothing in good. looks and blood. He
is more like a three-year-old.
.Another that will not fail to appeal
is the colt by St. Anton from Cisneros.
Cisneros is the dam of' Chrome, Armada,
ind Sensation, and *the whole of. her
family .possess "outstanding looks. It is
hard to .fault this youngster, as he has a
plenitude of highsclass .characteristics.-
I In the next few .days there will be
many., anxious moments at Richmond
Park to see that nothing untoward hap
pens to this bevy of- young thoroughbreds,
for .they represent wealth for the. enter
prising studmasters and a fine advertise.
ment for 'the State. ':. ..-' ,-' . ' '.
