54-All Saints', Hindmarsh
OLD WORKERS HONORED
(By Rev. C. H. Nield)
Adjadent to Hindmarsh Oval, All
Saints' Anglican Church and rectory
by their general aspect and surround
ings suggest rather an English coun
try parish church property than one
in the heart of an industrial district.
The interior of the churclh
strengthens that impression.
The church was erected in 1850; the
architect being Mr. W. Gar!ick. It con
tained one of the old-time galleries, but
three years ago at the celebration of the
seventy-fifth anniversary the gallery was
removed and a commodious porch built
in front of the church. A large school
hall was erected in 1884, and a kinder
garten room added in 1914.
In 1872 a chancel was added, the gift
of the late Mr. John Taylor, a resident of
the parish. On the wall is a marble tablet
to his memory.
A fine two-manual organ, built by Mr.
R. Mackenzie, of Adelaide, was presented
to the church in 1881 by Messrs. Benja
