TOBACCO CROPS RUINED
IN VICTORIA
MELBOURNE Thursday.-Early March
frcess and a particularly severe setback
of blue mould disease have caused an ai
roost complete crov loss to many tobacco
,rowers in the north-eastern districts and
Goulburn Valley, according to the Gov
ernment tobacco expert (Mr. G. E. Cogh
lan).
"This disastrous season is most disap
pointing," said Mr. Coghlan today. "'Dur
ing the past two years the growing of
tobacco in Victoria has increased by 500
per cent. Growers ivho have suffered
most severely can do nothing now until
the planting season begins in October.
Others are grading the poor crops they
have reaped."
