RMC's
class of
'94 leaves
in style
December is always
spit and polish time
for the graduating class
at Royal Military College,
Duntroon, and last Tues
day was the big day for
the Class of '94.
Graduates from New
Guinea, Thailand, the
Philippines, Fiji, Singa
pore, New Zealand, Ku
wait and every Austra
lian state marched in
review across the old pa
rade ground in the pres
ence of the Chief of the
General Staff, Lieutenant
General John Grey. At
noon, the commissioning
ceremony was held in the
RMC gymnasium.
The grand Graduation
Ball was held at the Con
vention Centre, decorated
in regimental colours.
Proud parents, giggling
girl friends, former grad
uates and this year's crop
mingled and swirled in a
colour dance.
At midnight the magic
moment, when the fian
cees, mothers, wives or
girl friends pin shoulder
pips on the newly com
missioned officers; a mag
ic moment, indeed, for
Rachel Milsom. who mar
ried her new officer, Greg
Daly, yesterday, at the
RMC Chapel, Duntroon.
At the ball, from top
down: Andrea
Turnbuil, Lisa Just, and
Adam Watson; Richard
Barrett, Rachel Milsom
and Raymond Cura;
and Mark Dowling,
Colleen Aubrey and
Greg Daly.

An experience to remember
WHEN Desmond and Elizabeth Woods won a
Parliamentary Experience in September's
art union run by the Canberra Symphony Or
chestra, they had no idea what they were in for.
A forced attendance at Question Time? A late
night lock-up before a mini-Budget?
Neither of the above. Last week the Woodses
were met by a member of the Prime Minister's
staff and taken on a conducted tour. Then, the
piece de resistance! In Great Hall, where up to
700 people can sit down to dinner, Desmond and
Elizabeth dined in splendour, with just eight
other guests. Flickering candles, flowers, music,
black ties, and in the corner, a white-hatted chef
prepared gourmet food on two barbecue plates.
The surprise dinner, the first of its kind in
Great Hall, was stage-managed by Peter Sepiol
and Anthony Page, of Spotless Catering. The hall
was the backdrop for quail foccaccia, tuna fillet,
lamb-loin rosti and almond marscapone towers.
Guests included UK visitors Rosemary Taylor
and her husband, Andrew; the orchestra's Cecilia
Spence; Senator Margaret Reid, and, following
the meal, Chef Simon Smith.
Secretaries and bosses farewell '94
0 ON, spit the dum
VI my," shouted Can
berra's secretaries to their
bosses at a Christmas par
ty at the Convention Cen
tre on Friday. Real dum
mies, real bosses.
And so, they spat their
dummies, some further
than others, refereed by
Rob Doyle, who looked
suspiciously like Santa
Claus a few minutes later.
The lunchtime party was
a farewell to '94 by the
Priority. Club, with bosses
as the special guests for
the day.
Red, green and gold
decorated tables, a tree
with gifts for everyone,
and the real, live Santa to
conduct those sorts of
games only he can get
away with. Trying on
stockings, spin the bottle,
all that kind of fun, with
luscious prizes, such as
trips away, luxury
accommodation and spe
cial dinners for two.
Guests included Joy
Sorbell, Sue Raynor, Cher
yll Wallace, Margaret
Brown, Amelia Girardi,
Cherry van Rooy, Lidia
Polo vie, and Mark Baker
and Steve Bryant from
the Advance Bank.
