Park on Octobcr 11 in celebration of the
NSW National Parks and Wildlife Ser

The camping area at Geehi on the
Alpine Way has been a popular destina
tion since the turn of the century. It has
recently been upgraded to cope with in
creasing visitor numbers as well as to
provide improved facilities.
Among Gcehi's attractions is the view
which takes in the Main Range of the
Snowy Mountains - taking in an area
which starts at 400m above sea level and
extends to 2200m in elevation.
The area is also popular, particularly
with overseas tourists, for its abundant
wildlife including emus and kangaroos
as well as magnificent stands of alpine
ash.
The scenic drive from Thredbo to
Khancoban along the Alpine Way is be
coming an increasingly popular alternate
route for interstate travellers.
The improved facilities at Geehi in
clude the provision of a day use area
with picnic shelter, paved walkways in
cluding a riverside walk, restoration of
the historic Geehi Hut, defined camping
areas and landscaping.
The opening of the improved facili

the "Picnic at Geehi" which will com
mence at 1 lam with a tree planting by
Khancoban Public School.
Everyone is welcome to join in the
picnic which will also feature musical
performances, ranger activities and a
BYO picnic (barbecue facilities provid

SOUTH-EAST PARKS
The NPWS manages more than 50
national parks and nature reserves in
south-eastern NSW which receive over 5
million visitors each year.
It's a region of natural and cultural
diversity unmatched elsewhere in the
country - snow-capped mountains,
beaches, caves, lakes, estuaries, off-shore
islands, historic buildings, Aboriginal
sites, rainforests, swamps and heath
lands.
The largest and most visited park in
the region is Kosciusko National Park,
some two hours' drive south.
While Kosciusko has become synony
mous with skiing it is rapidly becoming a
very popular summer retreat. Many peo
ple head for the coast over the summer
but others have recently found Koscius
ko has much more to offer than skiing
when the snow has gone - bushwalking,
fishing, cycling, horse riding, water
sports and camping to name a few.
In summer the beauty of Kosciusko
comes alive when the wildflowers light
up the mountains. Its mild weather also
makes it very comfortable at a time
when coastal dwellers sweat it out on the
beach.
At the northern end of the park you
will find Blue Water Holes, a stunning
limestone gorge with cool crystal waters.
It's a peaceful place and one of the most
scenic camping sites in Australia.
