Metalworkers
MELBOURNE: Talks will re
sume in Sydney today after a
national 48-hour strike by
metalworkers which ended at mid
night last night.
There could be disruption if the
metalworkers step up on-the-job
action next week in support claims
for a $35.90-a-week wage increase,
a shorter week and automatic quar
terly cost-of-living adjustments.
The assistant secretary of the
Australian Metal Workers and
Shipwrights Union, Mr Laurie
Carmichael, said proposals for
further action would be considered
at meetings of shop stewards in all
States next week. If the claims
were not progressing action would
be taken.
