Erica Fisher speaks at the demonstration outside the health commission yesterday.
About 50 people gathered
outside the Capital Territory
Health Commission at lunch
time yesterday to protest about
changes to the commission's
structure.
Among the speakers were the
three Members of the House of
Assembly, Mrs Robyn Walmsley,
Mr Gordon Walsh and Mr John
Clements, who will lose their seats
on the revamped commission.
? Mr Clement's said he was not
disappointed by the roll-up, saying
lunch time was not a particularly
good time for such meetings. One
problem was that many of the staff
of the CTHC was far flung and it
was therefore difficult for them to
ttend.
Other speakers included the
president of the Family Planning
Association of the ACT, Erica
Fisher, and Mr Arthur Vellazarb,
of.Resicare.
Telegrams and letters of support
from the Australian Teachers Fed
eration, the Alcohol and Drug
Problems Association of the Capi
tal Territory, the Hospital Employ
ees Federation and the ACT
Trades and Labour Council were
read to the protesters.
Mr Walsh told the crowd that
they were losing not only com
munity representatives on the com
mission but. also worker partici
pation, in the form of other elected
commissioners.
The chairman of the Capital
Territory tfcalth Commission, Dr
Ken Doust, was present for part of
the protest.
