Presentation - There is now on view
at Messrs Taylor and Sharp's jewellers,
Elizabeth-street, a unique specimen of
the silversmith start which it is proposed
to present to Mr C J Eady, in
recognition of the record score (oWJ) he
made against the Wellington Club It
is a plaque or shield of polished Tis
maman blackwood, embellished with
sterling silver mountings emblematical
of cricket and of the event which it has
been designed to commemorate In the
centre is a handsome silver scrolled
shield, bearing in raised letters, the in
scription Presented to C J Eady by
his cricketing friends and admirers in
Southern Tasmania " Other adorn-
ments - all neatly executed in sterling
silver "-ore being in monogram designs
giving the player's score, dates of its
occurrence and its component parts
complete a most artistic piece of work
which speaks volumes for the ibility of
Tasmanian workmen The woodwork was
prepared by Mr Geo Smith, of Collins
as roses and the who e of the mountings
engravings--. etc were executed by
Messrs Taylor and Sharp It is in
tended to make the presentation on
Thursday evening
Early Closing Association -The room
notice met in the Victoria-hall on Area
day evening a large number being present
Mr Chas Vautin (president) was
in the chair. The secretary (Mr P Gray)
read the minutes of the previous meet-
mg which were confirmed also correspondence
It was decided to form an
E.C Association orchestra, to be supported
by the committee and members
Mr F Murray was appointed acting
secretary, and Mr T McDonald acting
treasurer for same Several letters
were read in connection with the mutual
benefit of the society It was decided
to hold a members' social, for members
and friends only After some lengthy
discussion, the meeting terminated with
a vote of thanks to the chairman
Public Works - Tenders will be received
to-day by the Public Works Department
for work on Boy's road and
Dein road. Huon, and on Wednesday
next for the Snug by-road and Mountain
River road
All clergymen their wives, and
families will receive most courteous attention
