SQUASH
Bega sisters outstanding in ACT titles
Teresa and Katrina Eaton,
from Bega, were outstanding
in the recent Emrik ACT
school squash championships.
Teresa won the under-15 girls'
competition, 3-0, from Leonie
Marshal, and Katrina won the
under-14 girls' competition from
Rossi Modini, 3-0.
District officials believe that if
the girls continue learning the
game at their present rate they
will be among the State's top
juniors.
Mark and Scott Spillanc also
made a family affair of the un
der-13, IS and 16 competitions.
Mark won the under-IS and 16
title by defeating Anthony Mills,
3-2, and Scott took out the un
der-13 competition with a win
over Dean Gallegos , 3-0.
In the boys' under-14 division
John Rae beat Andrew Smith,
3-1. Glenn Slater was successful
against Stephen Lacy in the un
der-17 boys' division, 3-2. Slater
and Lacy are members or the
Woden Squash Club and their
matches are usually close.
The-open-age boys' division
was won by David Cutts from
Garry Ewart, 3-1. The match
included long rallies of hard-hit
ting squash.
Tournament organiser Phil
Slater was very pleased with the
standard of play and hopes it will
become an annual event.
