Victoria coasts to
six-wicket win
MELBOURNE: Victoria
coasted to a six-wicket win
over Western Australia at the
Melbourne Cricket Ground
yesterday.
The win, Victoria's first in
three Shield matches this season,
was the first it had had over the
Western Australians in the past
five years.
The four wickcts it lost in chas
ing the target of 127 runs were
four wickets the Victorians
should never have lost; they were
to shots unbecoming first-class
players, as were many during this
match.
Jim Higgs' performance, 5-50
and 7-49, could have earned him
a berth in the Test to play Eng
land in Perth starting on Decem
ber 14.
His line and length were im
maculate, and he made the most
of a pitch which was taking spin.
