Tuggs Blue and Tuggs Red were
the winning teams in the semi-finals
of the ACT interdistrict netball
competition at the Deakin West
ground yesterday.
Played in conditions varying from
bright sunlight to rainy overcast skies,
the second semi-final between Royals
and Tuggs Blue was a 19-all draw at
full time, but in extra time two good
goals by Tuggs Blue gave it a 27-25 win.
In the first half Royals defenders
Coralie McCormack and Glenys Upton
were able to stall off the Tuggs Blue
attackers, which allowed Royals to be
gin the second half with a two goal
advantage.
Tuggs Blue then sent Annette Simper
in to goal attack, and at three-quarter
time they had a three goal lead.
Very poor shooting by Tuggs Blue in
the final quarter gave Royals the
chance to force a draw. Desperate play
in the extra time by Tuggs Blue brought
out the best in the team and it was able
to complete the match in front.
The first semi-final between Tuggs
Red and Everglades proved to be a
game of equal abilities by both teams,
but Everglades were not able to sustain
their attack and succumbed to the pres
sure Tuggs Red placed on them. The
final score was 35-22 in favour of Tuggs
Red.
Tuggs Red shooter Sue Hills gave the
side its ability to score consistently,
however many attacking moves were
thwarted by Everglades defender Helen
Penney.
