CORPORATION.
Fortnightly meeting of Peterbor
borough Corporation held on Decem
ber 4.
Present: His Worship the Mayor
(Geo. E. Phillips, Esq., J.P.), Crs.
Goudie, Dodd, Clair,' jamieson, Gar
wood, Annear, and .the. Clerk.
Apologies received for non-attend
ance from Crs. Taylor and William
son.
Board of 'Health.
Inspector reported' having ■ visited
Federal HoteU.and as the Central
.Board Inspector would be there in
the course of a few days, the matter
was left in abeyance until his visit.
A discussion took place on the sani
tary system, during which Cr. Gar
wood stated that he had been inform
ed that at'jSirathalhyn the sjitne "sys

vogue, but was earned out by con
tract at a much lower rate than the
Corporation '.could do it Cr. Dodd
remarked that he had always-been op
posed to the present system of pay
ment for £he sanitary system, and
considered a flat rate upon each
household was the only fair and just
way oi paying for the service render
ed. The Mayor stated that he had a
communication from Moonta, and was
informed that the ratepayers paid pri
vately for their service, so that it ap
peared it was legal tp arrange other
systems of payment besides on' the
rating. Cr. Garwood moved that the
Municipal Association Be consulted on
the matter, and an endeavour made
to bring about .a. fair and adequate ad
mstment.—Carried.

The Clerk reported that the follow
ing had been elected at the annual
elections: For Mayor, Geo.'.-Philiips,
Esq.; Auditor, Mr. E. W., Brandt;
Councillors—East Ward, Mr. J.- J.
Taylor; West Ward, Mr. J,, Clair;
South Ward, Mr. E. F. Dodd; Von
gala Ward, Mr. A. J. Williamson.
Mayor's Remarks. :
The Mayor remarked that, as this
was the first meeting of the new
Council, he desired to congratulate
Cr. Dodd and Cr. Williamson upon,
their re-election, and to weLcorne Cr.
Clair as the "new representative oi
West Ward. Crs. Oodd and Clair
replied. Continuing, Hts. Worship
said he was pleased to be able toi re
port that the last house in Hood area,
nad been secured, and this nnalised
matters as regards the houses./ Ten
ders would be considered- 'thai night
tor the sale and'removal of same. He
liad interviewed thev telephone in en re
trees, and explained the 'present was
a bad time to cut the trees, and asked
that same be left till later. He had
also replied to Mr. Keats as request
ed.

reply to Council, stating that a res-'
ponsible officer would make an in
spection at Peterborough as .early as
possible.

—After discussion it was resolved
that on account of the short period
and the damage to the new road,, the
Corporation could not see their way
clear to grant request
