A vivpuv^w .. -tt
For Paringaand Cooltong
Two officials of the PMG's Dept.,.
Mr. M. J. Gooley (acting." divisional
engineer at Murray Bridge), and
Mr. Hall, visited Renmark yester
day, to investigate the matter of
telephone facilities for the new
Copltohg settlement at Chaffey and
Paring^.
It is proposed to establish an
exchange at Cooltopg as Boon as
' phones are available.
At Paringa fast night the officers
attended a' meeting Arranged by
the chairman of the Progress Asso
ciation (Mr. T. H. ITr^hn).
It -was pointed out by-the offlcere
that the limiting factor of not
being ajrie to run more wires
over the bridge could be over
come by laying ?_ a cable -under
the water. 1
At present there are -over 20
subscribers in the Paringa-Murtho
area connected, with the Renmark
exchange, and any further con
nections will1 ~ be similarly serviced.
Lack of telephones is now -the
only delay for persons whose prem
ises are adjacent, to an existing
line, but for those further out
on. the road to Victoria the only,
means of connection would bp . by
the Railway poles, and subscribers,
providing the line from the rail
way to their premises.
It is proposed at some' future
date to have. a trunk line along,
this Murray. VftUey, but tjiis may
be some years 'hence.. Inqtiirfes'
are to be made in Melbourne'as
to the possibility, of facilities be
ing made available for -resident^
over towards the Victorian border,
in the r meantime.
There, are nearly 20 people in
the district, desirous of securing
phones. '-'y
