AT SNOWTOWN.
This Commissioners arrived here at 12.30
a.m., and were met by MesBra W. H. Sail,
J.F., Jos. Turner, 3.P., K. Stephens, C.
Coltman, and other gentlemen.
Mr W. H. ffatj» called attention to the
proposed alteration of time table, and objected
to the train leaving before 7 a.m., or arriving
later then present time 6.40 p.m., also as to
extension of Snowtown line, stating that there
would be no actual benefit, as the distance to
Port^Pirie vrould be 48 miles, and farmers
would tend their wheat to Fort Pirie where
they could obtain 3d per busbel in advance of
^Snowtbwn. He also pointed out that the
only increase in the revenue would ba the
earriage along ..the proposed line, which in
reklity would be no benefit; as the farmers
had rirely to cart more than 15 miles to the
nearest Station. He also pointed out that if
the. intention was to convey ores, &o., from
the Silverfon line the preseut Snowtown line
was not strong enough for the traffic.
't Mr J. Tdbnbe asked for a direct mileage
charge at present the charges (owing to the
round-about route) were much higher than
water carriage., fie also asked for * aiding to
be'put in to the main road, as at present resi
dents had tp go all round tbe Station yard
over a bad rosd to get to the goods sled,
Mr C. Coltmak endorsed the remarks of
Mr Turner, and cited a ease showing the
<aliuge ;to be nearly double on the same
goods from Wallaroo to Snowtown, bb that of
etesmfer from Fo*t Adelaide to Wallaroo.
;Mr it, STEPHENS asked that tbe carriage at
present in use be removed and a suitable one
provided oh aocouttt of tbe inconvenienoe
attending-the getting into it for ladies and
children, fie also asked for the siding to
be extended for the convenience of loading
wiieat.' ?
MrC, 6-bebk called attention to the uone>
cessary quantity of red tape required in order*
ing tracks for variou* purposes asking that the
process might be.simplified.
JThe Chairman (BirSmxH) replied, stating
that 'all the wishes of the deputation would
be considered, and that they would endeavoa
to so arrange the traffic to be most convenient
to tbe nnajority, always considering the ques
tiarioftnakiag the lines pay.
TThfe - deputation having thanked the Com
missioner then* withdrew, and the Commis
sioners repaired to HoBt Barrett's where a sub
substantial lunch was partaken of, after which
they returned to Sadina in a few minutes
overman hour, rather a smarter pace then usual,
