PEJAR RESERVE TO BE
CLEARED OF BRIARS
Experiment By P.P. Board
Plans to rid Uth Pejar Rcserve of briars were drawn
up at Wednesday's meeting of the Pastures Protection Board.
'T'he Districf Stock Inspector
(Mr. F. H. Hildred) told the
Board that there had been a
rapid growth of briars on seve
ral reserves during the past few
years.
Mr. Hildred declared that br.ars
e on reserves were harbours for
rabbits. He recommended the
use of a tractor for the removal
of briars.
"I am satisfied that the only
satisfactory method would be to
pull the briars up," he added.
Mr. Hiidred said it had been
estimated that the cost of re
Inoving briars from the feniced
Portion of Pejar Reserve would
be about £100.
Mr. E. H. Bradbury: It we
attack the briars at Pejar Re
serve we should do it properly
as a test.
The Acting Chairman, Mr. J.
W. Heffernan: It would be use
less doing a bit at a time. The
sheep would keep spreading it.
On a motion by Mr. C. Brad
bury, the Board decided that
the briars at Pejar Reserve
should be pulled out during the
winter.
The Board decided that ar
rangements for the removal of
the briars should be left to Mr.
Hildred and the chairman. Mr.
