Call from Public
'Phone Box
Goulburn Fire Brigade was
sent speeding late on Friday
evening last to, a fire that
did not exist.
In answer to a call received
from a public telephone, booth,
the firemen made a fruitless trip
to Charles's Orchard, at the rear
of the War Memorial, only to
find that they had been the .vi
tins 'of a pranker.
According to the caller, either
a mant or youth, who ran the
risk of incurring the heavy pen
alty provided by law for malic
ious false alarms, a large shed
was ablaze. A touch of realism
was added by the practical joker
who spoke in exciting and gasp
ing tones, suggesting that he had
run some distance to tile tele
phone.
The call was received at lO.
p.m. The brigade dashed to the
property described over the
'phone and, finding no blaze, in
vestigated the whole area before
returning to the station.
Anyone possessing information
relating to the call are requested
to communciate immediately
with either the Fire Brigade or
Sgt. J. O'Connor, of the Goulburr
Police, who is in charge of in
vestigatlons.
