THE BRITISH BLOCKADE.
AMERICA'S PROTEST.
WASHINGTON, August 15.
Great Britain's explanation, in reply
to the American protest against the
examination of American mails, states
that it has been proved that bags from
one neutral country to another contained
rubber and coffee disguised as papers,
and what appeared to be business circulars
were really German propaganda.
Thus it is difficult to pass the mails
without examination. The despatch
shows why the delivery of the mails is
facilitated by their examination in London
rather than elsewhere.
