THE LATE DR. LLEWELLYN.
The late Dr. Rees Llewellyn, M.R.C.S., Eng-
land, who died at Braidwood on Wednesday
last, was born at Maesgwin, South Wales, in
1813. He was educated at Devynock and
passed his medical examination with all honors
when only nineteen years of age. He was then
appointed prosector for anatomical lectures at
London Hospital College, and was senior
house surgeon at London hospital during the
cholera epidemic in 1866. His promising
career was however cut short through viru-
lent blood-poisoning caused when dissecting
the corpse of a Chinaman, and the doctor
came to Australia to recruit his health. On
arrival he settled in Braidwood and resided
there ever since. He was the first surgeon of
the Araluen hospital and government medical
officer for Braidwood and Araluen police
districts.
