FUNERAL OF
FORMER
MAGISTRATE

The funeral of Mr.
Reginald Gordon Cookson,
former Stipendiary Magis-
trate in the West, took
place in Sydney last
week.
Mr. Cookson (68) died
at his home in Victoria
Road, Bellevue Hill.
He joined the Depart-
ment of Justice more than
40 years ago, and was first
appointed a stipendiary
magistrate in 1934.
Mr. Cookson was stipen-
diary magistrate at Dubbo
for 17 years.
He sat on the bench at
Paddington Court for
about six years before he
retired in 1949, and he
was also a short time at
Central Court of Petty
Sessions.
Mr. Cookson is survived
by a widow, Mrs. Elsie
Cookson, a daughter, Miss
Valerie Cookson, of
Cairns (Queensland) and
sons Colin, of Newcastle,
and Bob, of Gunnedah.
One son, Gordon, prede-
ceased him.
