DESTITUTE PRINCE
Tragic End in Berlin
By the death of Prince Alexander
of Hohenlohe-Oehringen while being
conveyed to a Berlin hospital, the tra-
gic life of a scion of one of the weal-
thiest and most aristocratic families,
whose uncle was once Chancellor or
the German Empire, will be recalled.
Prince Alexander was born in 187 1,
the son of Prince Alexander and Prin-
cess von Hanau, but he was disowned
by his family when 24 years old, ow-
ing to various notorious escapades,
and from that time he sank lower
and lower into the abyss of crime and
poverty.
After making efforts to obtain
money by various doubtful methods,
he finally landed into the lowest
haunts of Berlin and other big cities,
taking on any kind of work offered
him.
Finally, when absolutely destitute
and homeless, he got. work in a sec-
ond-class restaurant, but lost the job
when the restaurant was sold. This
was the last straw, and he went rav-
ing mad. The police took charge of
him, and arranged for him to be
taken to hospital, but he died on the
way.
