i. Mr, UAVENPORT to move—
' That the practice obtaining at the sales of
raste lands of paying agents to withhold their
pposition. and the encouragement thus given to

bidder solely with the disreputable object of being
ltought on', is alike discreditable and injurious to
the country; and that this Council requests til*
Government to adopt measures for the correction
of these evils.'
2. Mr. Baurow to move—
'That there be laid on the tabln of this Council
a return showing for the year ending September
30, 18*55, the total amount of revenue derived from
the ad valorem duties; the total amount derived
from fixed duties, specifying the amount on each
article: also, the amount that would have been
derived from each such article had it paid ad
valorem duty at 5J per cent, on its declared value:
and the amount that would have been derived
from articles included in the free list had they paid
a similar ad valorem duty.
