RAPID BAY.
From a correspondent
Rapid Bay. November 29.
The anniversary service in connection with the
Glenburn Wesleyan Chapel took place on Sunday,
the 26th, when two excellent sermons were preached
by the Rev. R. M. Wilson to very crowded con
gregations; in fact the largest that ever attended
since the chapel was built. On Monday the tea
meeting took place, when the tables were filled
four times. After tea there was a public meeting,
which was crowded to excess. The chair was
occupied by Mr. Christmas, after whose intro
ductory remarks, the Rev. R. M. Wilson, and
Messrs. W. & T. Wicks, T. Parlor, and G. Williss
addressed the meeting. From the secretary (Mr.
Bowden's) report, it appeared that the chapel was
quite out of debt and the proceeds of the tea and
collection, amounting to £12 12s. 8d., were to be
spent in beautifying it. During the intervals, the
choir of the Glenburn Chapel, under the manage-
ment of Mr. Bowden, sang some pieces of sacred
music in a very agreeable manner. After a very
pleasant evening the meeting closed with the
doxology by the choir.
I have been informed that the Glenburn and
the Bullaparinga people are about settling their
long-standing dispute about school affairs, by
joining and building a first-rate school, to be
situated between the two places.
It is just reported that Captain Tremaine, of the
Wheal Coglin, has discovered a valuable lode of
copper and silver-lead on that property. He has
brought in a large sample of good ore to the tents.
There has been another valuable discovery on the
Wheal Rapid a day or two ago, which will make
that mine one of the beet in the colony; they are
raising some beautiful ore just now. The Talisker
Mines are getting on well now, they are raising
plenty of ore, and Captain Price is going to smelt
this week. There are a few other mines doing as
well as can be expected.
The Cape Jervis Racing Committee held their
annual meeting last week, at the Silverton Hotel,
and resolved to have their races in February next.
