THE NEGRO FREE STATE OF LIBERIA. The League of Nations is much concerned with a suggestion of slavery in the Negro Free State of Liberia, on the West Coast of Africa, and inquiries are now being conducted into the matter. Liberia was founded under the American Colonization Society in 1820, and independence was proclaimed in 1847. The population is 40,000 Americanized blacks and 1,500,000 natives. 1.
