TREMENDOUS downpours of rain caused an unprecedented rise in the Hawkesbury River. Communication over roads and bridges was entirely suspended for a while, and the flood waters did extensive damage. The two pictures on this page give but slight idea of the extent of the devastation. Many of the outlying places were cut off from Windsor and Richmond. The new Yarra[?]di Bridge was 15 feet under a raging torrent, which was estimated to be travelling down at the rate of 12 miles an hour.
