    EXCLUSIVE PICTURES OF SCENES ON THE OPAL FIELD OF COOBER PEDY, buried away in the Stuart Range, and surrounded by a waste of gibber desert. Top left: Mr. and Mrs. Ted Stewart at the entrance to their dugout. The elaborate facade is composed of opal-hearing sandstone. Top right: Mr. and Mrs. Stewart at the face of a drive in an opal mine. Mrs. Stewart does much digging, and has quite a collection of gemstones. The pair live in a dugout on the field, and sleep in a hut made of petrol cases.
