  6. ONE UNWELCOME RESULT OF THE RAIN

    THE FIREMEN AND CREW OF A TRAIN travelling between Waratah and Sandgate had a narrow escape from death when it was hurled 30ft. over an embankment early on Saturday. The train, consisting of an engine and about 40 empty skips, was on its way to Maitland, when the embankment, weakened by the incessant rain of the last few days, suddenly collapsed. Dragging the tender and many trucks with it, the engine shot over the side shot over the side and came to rest in the position shown. (See other Photographs.) ... [ILLUSTRATED]
