Tihe annual moeeting of tlhe Crookwell Rifle
Club was held in the Instituto last Tuesday
evening. Mr. A. G. McDonald, captain, pre
sided over a fair attendance of members. 'The
report and balance-sheet were read by the hoen.
secretary, Mr. F. Rowe, and were adopted.
During tihe year several of the members had
either left the district or joined the expedi
tionary forces, amongst them being Capt. IR. 1,
Walker, a most enthusiastic officer, who had
worked hard to improve the status of the club.
The shortage of ammunition and the calling in
by the Defence Department of all magazine
rifles on loan hadl tended to lessen the interest.
of the the rmembers. Only four prize shoots had
been held during the year, and these, notwith
standing that liberal cash prizes were offered,
had been poorly attended. The club, financially
speaking, was in a lbetter condition than over,
owing to thie Government subsidy being larger,
and also to the sale at a good price of empty
cartridge shells, which had realised the sum of
£13 6/3. An honorarium of £3 3] was voted to
the secretary for his past services. Thle election
of olfficers for thie ensuing year resulted:
President, Mr. E. V. Coleman; vice-presidents,
Messrs. J. J. Pearman and B. Thurkettle; cap
tain, Mr. A. G. McDonald; hon. secretary, Mr.
F. it, Roweo; treasurer, Mr. S. F. Hiutton; com
mittee, Messrs. Darcy, Cherry, Pinkerton and
Gilby; auditors, Messrs. C. T. Clifton and H.
L. Caldwell.
Steady rain has been falling all dpy, and
there is every sign of its continuing, a thick
mist obscuring the hills altogether from view.
