A rare treat was afforded the lovers of
good music last evening when Mr. Lern

a presentation of numerous influential
local families
Ali Pringle was in excellent form in
glorious bass voice being heard to great
advantage Altogether he gave fourteen
numbers consisting of some of the finest
arias and songs written for the boys
voice all serving to display his splendid
talent culture and magnificent singing
He naturally met with a very hearty a
reception upon first appearing to sing She
alone channel my sadness from Guo
nod s La Reine de Saba and at the end
of the and he was immensely applauded
Next came bracketed together The
Bedouin love song and that great descriptive
song; the raft both by P a
suit and both sent me to show how his
method emblem him with such nature
else to secure a delicious pianissimo as
it! is a full round fortissimo with a
voice flexible and wonderfully resonant
The next group consisted of the ana
lilla giJinmai m arno from Verdi's
Don Carlos Schubert's song Der
Neugieneger and Hatton's Revenge
The dramatic fire and enormous rendering
of the latter excited tremendous ap
p case during which the great basso returned
twice to bow act now lodgments
Schubert's Der Wanderer and H n
del s Why do the nations' came next
The great here from the Messiah was
sung with organ and pi inofort decor
parliaments and the audience fairly burst
forth into rapturous applause before the
last note of the organ had sounded and
maintained it over two recalls the
finding them so persistent Mr Pring"
added a very old English song arranged
by Mr Line hilson entitled When dull
care Mr Pringle opened the second
part of the programme with Schweig
bthwe g from Weber's Der Press
chintz His next number was a group
of three stately compositions Gounod b
Nazareth the militaire Die beiden
GieincVr (Schumann) and Pinsuti s 1
fernery LastIv carne bracketed to
gether the noted serenade of McPhie
teachers from the third act of Gounod s
II list with its mocking so are and
sardonic laughter and the serenade
from Bellions Trust with its swinging
rhythm forming a stuck ng contrast
The interpretations were truly master
ful and the demonstrations of apples a
converts of course of the most enthusiastic
character
Miss UmaBjibor who 6 a very mt 1
ligent and cultured singer first goo
with true artistic feeling Elizabeths
gray left 0111 Wagner's Tannhauser
which was well received but she was
heard to still better advantage in Mever
beers Nobil Signor ( Les Huguenots )
and being warm v encored added
Looking into your eyes Her third
number was on artistic interpretation of
Sing maiden sing (Sterndale Bennett)
and she was heartily recalled Miss
Muriel Walch who has been studying
with great success in Melbourne has developed
a delightful sweet and limpid
soprano voice and sang with much
charm and br lightness Open thy blue
eyes (Massenet) After two recalls an
encore was his stand upon and the young
lady sang with delightful naivete I
wonder Mr Bradshaw Major performed
the trying task of supplying the
pianoforte accompaniments to all the
songs and did so with his usual good
judgment and effect and Mr T Julian
Haywood presided at the organ
To-night Air Pring e has consented to
sing at the Centenary Finey Fair
