Telegrams to Naval Personnel
Arrangements were recently made
by which messages of an urgent and
private nature could be despatched to
the personnel of H.M.A. ships by Nav
al, channels as E.F.M. messages. It
was intended that only messages from
next of kin or nominated friends
should be allowed. Experience of the
system has shown that many messages
of a non urgent nature are being hand
ed in at Post Offices for despatch by
this method. It is imperative that
wireless and cable communications to
ships of war should be reduced to the
absolute minimum, and it isv regretted
therefore that in future only messages
of a really urgent and private nature
can be accepted. Messages of con
gratulations or birthday greetings will I
not be permitted, and terms of endear- j
ment should be omitted. The Naval '
authorities advise that E.F.M. mess
ages may be subject to delay in deliv- .
ery and it should not be taken for
granted that they will reach addresses
by a particular date.
