HALF-YEARLY REGISTRATIONS.
NO LAW YET.
The Government has less than a
fortnight^- in which ip pass, legislation to
keep 'faith with motdrists for half -
yeaf ly registrations. --.
To Pl^laWent; to the Royal Aujto
,mobile Association, to private members,
and others, the Premier h;as given —
assurance that half-yearly registrations
would operate from July 1. In spite of
this, and- probably because the Premier '.
has beeri^Sbsent in Melbourne, the
acting Kegistrar ot Motor v enicies nas
had nd iktimation vto accept . half-yearly
registration fees. Mr. W£Hker;\s^id on
Monday that motorists who register op
July 1 will' pay three- fourths of the full
registration fee which fell due on
April 1. ,.;:/_
Unless the promise of the Govern
ment be kept, said the secretary of the
Royal Automobile Association (Mt. f
Christophers) many motorists will fur- *
ther postpone registration , and the
Government will lose revenue. They
have done without '. cars for three
months and, from an enjoyment point v
of view, their cars could1 remain laid up ;
during ^iily, August, and September ;
without great inconvenience. These mp- .; |
rtorists are prepared to meet fees fpr
six months, but not for nine monthis,
in one payment. . r
