(AAP).—India lost four
second innings wickets
without a run "being
scored, in the third day
of the first Test yester-\
day. It was the most j
dramatic incident in a\
Test match in modern\
cricket. !
England's new fast bowl
er, Trueman, took three of
the four wickets. It was
his first appearance in a
Test. '
India was 41 runs behind
when the second innings
started.
With his second ball, True
•man got Roya caught at first
slip, and Bedser dismissed
Gaekwad.
Then Trueman bowled Man
jtri and Mankrekar with the;
first and second deliveries of
his second over.
Four wickets had fallen
without a run bejng scored.
When the day's play ended
India had lost two more
wickets to make the over
night score 6/136.
In^ their first innings
India scored 293 and Eng
land replied with 334. This
puts India 95 runs ahead
with four wickets in hand,

The dry dusty pitch at
Leeds could not be blamed for
India's early disaster yester
day.
It was the Indian captain,
Hazare, and Phadkar, who
came to the rescue with a
partnership of 105.
Hazare was out shortly be
fore tha close with 56. Phad
kar was not out 62.
The partnership estab
lished a new Indian record
for a sixth-wicket against
England.
India will resume tomorrow
with a possible chance of
saving the game, especially if
rain falls.
