MAN KILLED
AT WHYALLA
JAMMED BETWIEN
CRANE AND TRUCK
400 WORKMEN
ATTEND FUNERAL
WHYALLA, Monday.
lAMMED between a crane and
a truck on the blast furnace
site at Whyalla on Sunday, Mr.
Jack W. Young, formerly of
Newcastle, was killed instantly.
Mr. Young, who had been at
Whyalla for nearly a year, was eui
p-kryeri—-by Bröken Hill Proprietary
Company as a foreman rigger.
Accompanied by his wife lie drove
from the town to the blast furnace
site, at which he arrived between 8
and 9 a.m. He left the car and told
his wife that he would be away for
only a few minutes.
Then he walked toward a locomo
tive crane and was watching il work.
He got between the crane and a
truck and was crushed by the two
vehicles, death being instantaneous.
The news was broken to his wife
by a workman.
All the men who could do so
left work on the blast furnace site
this afternoon to attend the
funeral. About 400 marched in
the procession.
